  • My son was thrilled to receive the Air Hogs Sharp Shooter he had seen on TV. It was a gift for his 6th birthday. It took him a day or two to learn to control it. Problem one: It would only fly for about 5 minutes before needing to be re-charged. Problem two: the control switch broke after only one week.

  • Fun to play with. My nephew loved it, but it consumes lots of batteries. It also doesn’t fly well even in a little bit of wind.

  • I bought this for my husband and he loves it. My son enjoys it too, but my puppy hates it! It’s pretty durable. The only drawback is that you only get about 8 minutes of fly time per 20 minutes of charging.

  • Purchased the Air Hogs Sharpshooter two days ago at a Toys R Us for $35. My only previous RC heli was an early Air Hogs Havoc micro heli. Compared to the Havoc, the Sharpshooter is a dream to fly. The coaxial rotors provide a nice stable flight. You use a small knob on the controller to trim the heli (stop residual rotation when in hover). The heli generally moves slowly forward and you control left and right directional. There are two spring-loaded plastic missiles that you fire by pressing button on top of the controller. The missiles fly about 8 feet or so and are great fun to shoot at your dog, cat, targets, etc. You charge the heli from a small wire that extends from the hand controller. A full charge takes about 25 minutes and flashing LEDs tell you when it’s charged. You’ll get about 5-6 minutes of flight time on a full charge. You should wait about 10-15 minutes between flights before you recharge to allow the heli batt to cool. The flight time may not sound like much, but it’s fun anyway. Very rugged so far. We fly over a carpeted area and occasionally strike a wall or furniture, with no damage. My son tried it outdoors and it flew, but the infrared controller seems to be adversely impacted by sunshine. An indoor toy for sure. Takes 6 AA cells in the handheld controller. The heli has a lipo batt. Comes with some paper targets for the missiles. My only caveat (and it’s a small one) would be that I’ve seen some reviews on this site that complain about the heli batt not holding a charge after some weeks of repeated use. I’ve only had mine for three days now. I’ll try to update this review in a few weeks and let you know if we’ve seen any change in the heli batt performance.

  • For an old kid (I am 42) this is a pretty fun RC helicopter. I fly it around my office area with some success. I would not necessarily recommend it for younger children as they may not have the patience to master it and will be disappointed by the short flying time.

Here are my main points about this product:

    1. It takes a bit of practice and a light touch to get it to fly smoothly. Even then there is a bit of random variation. I would not expect to be able to maneuver it with a great deal of precision.

    2. The trim also needs to be adjusted, which can only be done after you are able to get it to hover successfully.

    3. The one I received seems pretty durable. On my first flight I got it stuck in the tile ceiling of my office. It fell to the floor and was ready for more. Nonetheless, I can see that one should be careful when handling it, but it seems to take the abuse of crashes pretty well.

    4. As far as I can tell it is not “radio” controlled in that it appears to use infrared LEDs for control. This means

that you need to keep it within line of sight to keep it in control. Otherwise, bad things can happen (i.e. crash).

    5. The missiles are slow to react, and the do unbalance it, but they are fun anyway.

    6. The battery will not last for too long before it needs to be recharged. This is due to the fact that it needs to be very light in order for the motor to be able to create the lift required for it to fly. But it is fun while it lasts, and then it takes a bit of time to get it recharged. I would definitely get some rechargeable batteries for the controller.

    7. Be realistic about your expectations for the price you are paying. “Real” RC helicopters are very expensive, and this thing by comparison is dirt cheap. I was amazed for the price that it flew at all!
