  • I was introduced to this game at a boardgame convention, and it immediately hit my list of games to add to my collection. It is a fast playing, easy-to-learn game that still involves a level of strategy to keep it interesting for all ages. The shape and color sorting aspect to the game makes it accessible to slightly younger players, although I would not recommend it for children much younger than eight.

The rules instruction took us less than five minutes when no-one at the table had played the game before. You use castle tiles (walls, towers, and keeps) to build a 3×3 castle faster (you hope) than your opponents – but you also have the opportunity to attack your opponents’ castles and win the game via that alternate method.

I highly recommend this game as lighter fare for your next game night. The quick time to play makes it a great filler when you’ve had too many long games and it makes it a nice addition to a friendly gathering.

  • Our 8 year olds found this game a bit slow moving. Takes a bit of patience to get it going.

  • I bought Castle Keep for my 7 year old last Christmas. We both enjoyed playing it from the first game. It’s a year later and we still both like to play it. There’s more to Castle Keep than just luck. There’s strategy involved when a player has to decide whether to build his own castle or attack another’s castle, in figuring out how to build a castle defensively, and in deciding how many tiles to put down or hold back. Yet, it’s easy enough to start playing right away. There are advanced rules to make it harder, if desired. The simple version of the game can generally be played pretty quick, which is great when you want a fast fun game.

  • This is an ok game. I’ve only played it with one other person. It might be more fun with more people.

  • I personally like this game a lot. I think it is fun, uses strategy, and as a busy mom, the ever important…can be done in 15 mintues. But the kids would leave it in the closet most of the time. It gets a fraction of the playtime our other games get. And my kids beg to play games all of the time!
