I would never pay $135 for a Mega Illuminated Sudoku game. It isn’t worth that MUCH! You can buy the regular size illuminated for about $13.00. Also there are places to find the Mega at much better prices. I’m not sure who these people think they are, but I wouldn’t even pay $30 for it. Never pay over $20 for Sudoku. It’s a great game, but you can find the handheld out there for a good price.

It is a good “machine” although you need to keep in a certain position (angle) in order to visualize the numbers. One missing feature is that it does not tell you which game number you are playing, so after a while you may playing the same game over and over. Overall it does meet the purpose.

We’ve reviewed and tried over a dozen handhelds for the sudoku mall toy store. If you’re looking for a handheld with all the features at a can’t be beat price– this is the one!
There are both solve and try settings, beginner and advanced, and even “tiny number” placeholders to input candidates. It is easy to select between levels, and wrong tries flash as a warning to help train beginners, and practice your pattern recognition guessing skills. There are hundreds of thousands of puzzles, including very challenging advanced levels that require X wing, chains, fish subsets and other very skilled techniques, however, the beginner level even has “kids” puzzles that can all be solved with simple scanning, and make great speed exercises for advanced players.
The one drawback is the tough to see screen contrast– set it at “1″ (press pause and use the touch screen stylus to select 1), and don’t sit in a lot of glare, and it is workable. ALL handhelds have this drawback. It is backlighted, which helps a lot if you’re not in sun. For bright sun, copy the puzzle onto paper and use the device in sections as a tutor as you solve! There are great blank grids free at the sudoku dot com Australia site (we have no affiliation). These little handhelds are available between 5 and 12 bucks, and Amazon’s Prime works great with reasonable shipping that beats most of the third party prices when you add shipping. Includes touch screen, extra stylus and even batteries! Techno Source is a quality outfit that stands behind their products. You can get high end handhelds for over 200 bucks, and believe it or not, they are not as good as this little monster, regardless of price! Makes a GREAT gift for the sudoku addicts in your life.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If the unit is squirrley when you open it, and doesn’t seem to work, 99.99% of the time the supplied batteries were just old after being shipped and stored from Hong Kong. Before you go through all the hassles of trying to return it, or assume it’s defective, just add fresh batteries. Same thing if it goes rogue after a year or so. TS will even send you free batteries if you open it with this problem, but make sure you check before assuming you got a dud, or trying to return it.

OK, I am enjoying the whole Sudoku game, but not this way. The screen is so hard to make out, mostly in natural lighting. I take it in the car with me and it is so hard to see, especially in the sunlight, that is kind of ruins the fun of the game. It is durrable, and have had no problems with the unit as a whole, just the screen issues.
I have owned it for 3 months now.

I’ve owned this handheld for a week and already the ‘pause’ and ‘clear’ touch portions of the upper right hand of the screen won’t work most of the time — >90%. Other than that, I love the backlight feature. I would prefer that the division between the 9 main blocks was clearer, with bolder lines.
