Game is very similar to outburst, except a little more subdued. It was fun, but as a family with grown children we’ve played better games. The best part was the smarty pants so you could do the smarty pants dance!

When we first opened the box and read the directions, it looked too complicated and we put it away. A few days later, we tried it again. This time, we took our time with it and played one practice round as someone read the directions. We got the hang of it and end up playing it for hours! We usually play games guys against the girls, but this one we played individually, and it was a blast. We had a lot of fun with it. Everyone said it was the best game of the holiday! Note…. the hand-held reading device is a little cheaply made (doesn’t compare to the original “Outburst” piece). All in all a great family game.

This is a fantastic party game for as little as 4 people. We played it once at a friend’s house and immediately bought it for ourselves. The same thing has happened multiple times when friends bought the game for themselves after playing it at our house. Some of the questions are fun, pertaining to popular culture (questions about the Beatles, MTV, or common household products), others are about more brainy topics (politics, economics or geography). Either way, there are topics for everyone and guessing wrong is just as much fun as guessing right. I highly recommend this game!!

We played it for two days after Christmas. It was awesome– for three generations (the youngest were 20-somethings). We laughed ’til we cried many, many times. We look forward to many more evenings of laughter with this one.

Smarty Party is a fun game. The vast majority of cards are easy enough for at least a pure guess. Probably the best facet of the game is the “Apples to Apples” concept of the “judge rules all”. Meaning the judge has discretion to allow an answer to be correct or not.
So here’s the problem my family has encountered, on more than one occasion: Did the writers of Smarty Party categories bother to check their answers? There are definitely some mistakes on the cards – at least there are answers we have yet to find reasons behind.
Coming from a family that values highly the most accurate answers, I have to say we are disappointed. For instance (this is the most egregious mistake yet), the category is FIRST 12 US PRESIDENTS IN ALPHABETIC ORDER. Not surprisingly, there are 12 total answers. Very surprisingly, Gerald Ford managed to make it on the list and NOT Millard Fillmore. Laaaaaast time I checked my alphabet, “i” came before “o”. My family is still looking for an explanation on this one.
Another problem is the lack of specific categories. For example, TOP MOVIE MUSICALS. What makes the musical a top musical? We found it hard to believe that Oklahoma would not have made it on the list – but who KNOWS what standards Smarty Party was going for as a “TOP” movie musical.
As a game, it’s great in theory. Personally, I think R&R games should have held back on its release for a while and double-checked their answers.
