  • I gave this toy to my 6-year-old grandson, who is very into building, matching, and figuring out puzzles and shapes. He loves this toy. When he first opened it, he stopped opening all of his other presents! Highly recommended.

  • My daughter who’s 8 years old got this as a x’mas gift. Not only her, but it seems that the entire family (me, my husband, my 6-year old son, and all her older cousins) couldn’t stop playing with it! It’s challenging, educational, and yet very fun and pulls the creativity out of all of us! The pieces are not too small, so they don’t get lost easily. They are also very portable. I’m gonna order a bunch as potential birthday presents for my children’s classmastes!

  • This is a GREAT puzzle game for all ages. My 4 year old spends HOURS at a time doing this, it’s his absolute favorite game, and I find that it’s still challenging enough to stump me! It can be a fun party game too! Our friends and family love to do timed puzzle solving challenges, I’ve never seen them so excited over a game before!

There are enough different puzzle cards so that you don’t get bored doing the same things over and over, and by the time you get through all of them you’ve probably forgotten how to do the first ones again!

The only thing that isn’t perfect about this is that we’ve noticed the cards tend to get stuck in the drawer under the playing board, and then they get bent, and then they get stuck the next time because they’ve been bent. It’s definitely not a big issue though, we just keep a rubber band around the cards and keep them out of the drawer instead, and they can still fit in the travel bag with the board.

  • I can’t get enough of the fun games from Thinkfun. We’ve yet to buy a dud. Shape by shape is a 2-dimensional puzzle game, similar to tangrams. Some pieces are red, some are yellow and you make a design to match one from a deck of picture cards. It’s a red design against a yellow background. The shapes repeat themselves so while there are 14 pieces there are only 7 different shapes. That helps the player see patterns in solving each puzzle. At first, players might need the picture clues on the back of each card. Two clues are given; first the layout of JUST the red tiles are given. Hopefully once those are in place the player can figure out how to place the yellow. But if not, the second picture clue gives the layout of the yellow tiles. When my middle child, then age 7 first played, she strictly just followed the clues, trying to match the tiles to the pictures. Not so challenging to an adult perhaps but perfect for her at that time. After playing a while though you’ll start to get the hang of the game, be able to tell right away if two pieces can’t possibly go next to each other, and so on.

My only gripe about this game is it’s storage design. The cards store inside the game frame; a good idea but “played with” cards tend to “fluff up” a bit and tend to make the sliding drawer get stuck.
